Interior Design Solutions was invited to participate in a showhouse in a Gold Coast mansion, and were drawn to a small room originally occupied by the governess.
What’s special about this room is that it has been designed around the art, rather than incorporating art as an afterthought. Cristine Piane’s exquisite botanical watercolors inspired us to create a quiet retreat for a woman of taste and refinement.
Everything in this room was chosen to complement the art, and even the gesso color wash used on the walls was derived from watercolor samples mixed by the artist. The botanical theme is reinforced by “window treatments” made of ivy and flowering plants. The carpet, linens, and accessories were all chosen to subtly reflect the art. As a counterpoint to all the flowers, we chose furniture with austere, simple lines — a Louis Philippe daybed and armoire, Louis XVI chairs, and a Regency plant stand and mirror.
